By creating the perfect back to school display is a great way to set the tone for your classroom environment!
I always wanted the first day of school to be something my students would remember. That was my chance for the first impression…not just of me as a teacher, but also of our classroom space. It was an opportunity to make each of my students to feel loved, welcomed, and included. These thoughts and feelings of that very important day are what really gave my back to school displays a life.
Student reactions always let me know that the time it took to create my door or hallway display was totally worth it! To put it plainly…they simply set the energy of our space, and were more powerful than I initially realized.
The door decor that you see to the right is the very first set that I shared with my IG community. The response was astounding! It was made very clear to me that other teachers wanted access to this form of aesthetic communication with their students. They also so the worth of these displays, and it has grown to be something much larger than I ever intended it to be. I now have over 70 displays in my TpT shop.

Choosing Your Back-to-School Display!
When deciding on your back-to-school display, you can consider whether or not you want it to be subject-specific, motivational, welcoming, or simply fun and uplifting. You will also be able to decide on your colors. This is a great way to express yourself as a teacher!
Teachers often tell me that they LOVE my displays, but it would be against the fire code for them to put t on their door. Do you know what I tell them…put it somewhere else! Notice that the title of this post is DISPLAY and not DOOR DECOR.
Where else can you use them?
- Hallway displays
- The front of your desk
- Above your whiteboard
- A wall in your classroom
- Hanging from the ceiling (YES…this is a thing. See the picture below.)
- Classroom bulletin board
- School entryway
- Above your doorway
Do NOT limit yourself! There are no rules when it comes to creativity.
The photos on this page were sent to me by teachers like you, and it shows all the different ways they are using these displays in their classrooms!
