I used to LOVE painting things for the hallway. These cells are one of my favorites. I’m so glad I took a picture of them, because there were a few that I didn’t. 🤦🏼‍♀️ My thought process on displays such as this was that students will walk through the halls and learn. I always tried to make every part of my room (and hallway) something that would teach my students. It was an opportunity to reinforce what I was showing them in class. My classroom was interactive and fun! I miss it so much, but I’m grateful that I have memories like this. 🩷

📚 This is a super simple way to encourage your reluctant readers to read or to get your students to try new a new genre of books. I made this bulletin board for a fourth grade ELA teacher, and I love how it turned out.

Here’s how it works:
👉 you select a variety of books for your students.
👉 copy and paste the cover image into a program such as PPT, Word, Google Slides, or even put it into Canva
👉 type “free QR code creator” into Google
👉select a site to use - don’t pay for it! You can find many that are free.
👉 you can either write a short summary or cliffhanger about each book…OR ask ChatGPT to do it for you!
👉use that information to create the codes, then copy and paste them onto the cover images.
👉print and display!
👉 if possible, create a suggested book basket with the books in the display for easy access - if you don’t have one, find out if your library does

You can change the books monthly, seasonally, or by theme.

I displayed mine using wooden borders, and I loved how it turned out!

Sometimes I go silent. It’s my way of coping with stress. I shut down from the public and soak in my family.

Yesterday I got a double mastectomy. I tested positive for the BRCA2 gene, which makes me highly susceptible to getting breast, ovarian, uterine, peritoneal, and pancreatic cancers before the age of 70.

I have had many dark days being at my father’s hospital bed as he fights gastric cancer. I also underwent a complete hysterectomy at the end of May. It’s been a year to say the least.

Even though the darkness hasn’t fully lifted, I can also acknowledge that I have also had brighter days when having parties for my girls, redoing a classroom for a friend, watching my girls start school,, going on dates with my husband, going to concerts and being front row to see @slash 🎸, playing cards with my mom to pass time at the hospital, and so much more.

Life can be heavy and beautiful at the same time. It can be chaos and calm. It can make me cry until I can’t breathe and make me grateful that I have someone to love so deeply that I cry.

I’m all over the place, and that’s okay. There is a time that you have to forgive yourself for not showing up on social media, for not answering every text…for reflecting on what is the most precious thing in my life. That, for me, is the time I have with my family.

As I heal from my surgery, I am going to try to show up for all of you. I have incredible followers. I have gotten so much love and support since last November when my world began to crumble. You picked me up many times. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you. I see your care for me and my family. Thank you.

It’s time to heal…let’s go!! ❤️‍🩹💪

PS: GET GENETICALLY TESTED FOR BRCA1 and 2!!! Do it!! I’m a previvor, and I’d like for you to be the same, should you test positive, too. 💞

Today is the day. My father is undergoing a major

Today is the day. My father is undergoing a major surgery that has been long awaited. He found out last November that he had Stage 4 stomach cancer and that he was inoperable. The chemo worked INCREDIBLY, and by the grace of God and a whole bunch of positive energy, he was given the option of a partial or full gastrectomy (removal of stomach)…along with scraping his peritoneum and diaphragm, and also removing some lymph nodes. He is also getting a heated chemo placed directly onto his abdomen to kill any microscopic cells.

This surgery is 6-10 hours, and his heart isn’t the best. My mom and I are “patiently” waiting for our next update. So far, after four hours in the OR, he is doing okay.

So after a stent, a week’s stay in the hospital due to pneumonia, and then a week in the hospital for three broken ribs and a collapsed lung…today has come. Please keep praying and sending those good vibes. He is my person. I love him so very much and want him here with me and my girls for years to come.
